A cold front slowly sank south across the area during the morning. With plenty of instability in place, showers and thunderstorms developed along the front and slowly moved south across northeast New Jersey during the morning hours. The 12Z sounding from Upton, NY indicated precipitable water values around 2 inches, which combined with fairly slow storm motions, resulted in isolated flash flooding. While most locations received less than an inch of rain, Newark Airport reported 2.12 inches.
