On Christmas Day a strong low pressure system tracked up the spine of the Appalachians and to the west of Maine, resulting in 1 to 2 of rain across the region will locally up to 4 in the favorable upslope areas of the Western Maine Mountain foothills. Melting snow and partially frozen ground led to excessive runoff and resulted in minor river flooding across the region.
