A weather system moved from the Lower Mississippi River Valley through the Appalachian Mountains. Locally heavy rainfall fell across the southern half of east Tennessee during the day and early evening of March 25. High winds and thunderstorms with large hail affected portions of the Smoky Mountains and the adjacent foothills.
