A strong cold front neared the Commonwealth from the northwest during the morning of June 17th, quickly dropping into the state by the afternoon hours. Kentucky was well primed ahead of this front, with strong southerly flow ushering in large amounts of moisture. Showers and thunderstorms began popping up along and just ahead of the front during the afternoon hours in south-central and south-eastern KY, producing heavy rains.
