An upper level disturbance crossed West Virginia on August 11th leading to showers and thunderstorms moving through that morning. Several of these storms were slow moving and back-building which allowed for a few occurrences of flash flooding in West Virginia throughout the morning and afternoon. Rainfall amounts of up to 2.5 inches were observed and a mudslide occurred in the 9000 block of Coal River Road in Raleigh County.
