There was an upper level ridge to the west of the region and an upper trough to the east of the region. Upper level disturbances in the flow aloft as well as thunderstorm outflow boundaries were present. High moisture was present in the atmosphere, and the ground was saturated from recent rainfall. These conditions resulted in thunderstorms and a storm complex that developed and moved across West Texas. These storms produced a severe wind gust and flash flooding.
