A nearly stationary front remained to the north of the region on July 7th. An upper trough dug across the Great Lakes during the daytime hours as well. While better upper-level forcing remained to the north, return flow increased between this trough and the tropical system Elsa to the southeast. An abundant amount of moisture and warm air was thus funneled into our region.
