The base of an upper trough nosed into north Alabama and provided lift along a diffuse surface boundary. Thunderstorms with heavy rainfall developed along and south of the Interstate 20 corridor during the afternoon hours. A few of the storms produced rainfall totals of 1 to 3 inches in a short period of time.
