A shortwave trough moving across the state promoted the development of convection over portions of Maricopa County during the afternoon on the 15th. With anomalously high amounts of moisture in place along with high instability, thunderstorms were capable of producing strong winds and locally heavy rainfall, which led to some reports of flash flooding.
