Scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms developed along a pre-frontal trough in a very hot and unstable environment over the North Carolina Piedmont. Weak steering flow combined with the unstable environment resulted in both slow moving showers and thunderstorms and strong downdrafts, with new thunderstorms developing along the subsequent outflow boundaries. The storms produced damaging winds and isolated large hail and flash flooding.
