A subtropical air mass with dewpoints near 70 degrees and precipitable water values of roughly 1.7 inches was in place across the region. Several storms pushed to the northwest out of Pennsylvania and blossomed into a cluster of slow-moving storms in southern Chautauqua county. The storms slowed as they moved north while back-building in an unusual direction...to the east. Warm rain processes were likely dominating as the storm centroid on radar was below the freezing level and very little light
