Flood Cause
Heavy Rain

Showers and thunderstorms repeatedly moved across Northern Alabama and Southern Middle TN. Numerous roads were closed in Lincoln County, with widespread rainfall amounts of 3-6 across much of the area. Portions of NW Madison received 6-8 over a few hours, leading to flash flooding.

A band of significant rainfall repeatedly doused parts of extreme northwest Alabama and southern middle Tennessee. Radar estimated rainfall in isolated locations as high as 6 to 8 inches, but the majority of the area received 2 to 4 inches of rain.

A surge of tropical moisture in advance of a slow moving but strong upper level trough tracking east from Texas produced copius amounts of heavy showers and a few thunderstorms over an 18-24 hour period.

Rainfall continued across parts of northwest Alabama for a second day in a row. Radar estimated rain amounts as high as 3 inches. Additional rainfall on already saturated ground quickly caused flooding. Numerous roads across all of these counties were flooded and impassable.
