The combination of high moisture content air and a slow moving negatively tilted upper trough, along with a boundary stalled across the area resulted in areas of very heavy rain during the morning into the afternoon. Some of the areas of heavy rain produced flash flooding across portions of the central Piedmont and central Coastal Plain of central North Carolina.
