Astronomical and meteorological factors combined to produce a significant multi-day coastal flood event along portions of the southeast South Carolina coast. A new moon occurred on 11/4 and the lunar perigee peaked on 11/5, producing the highest astronomical tides of the year. Meteorologically, strong favorable winds and the passage of a deepening area of low pressure off the Southeast coast helped to drive large positive tidal departures.
