A warm and anomalously moist airmass was in place across Mississippi ahead of a cold front. This front moved through the region early on the 3rd, with arctic air spilling south behind it. Ahead of the front, showers and thunderstorms developed, with some being severe and producing damaging winds. Given the high moisture content present, locally heavy rainfall occurred and resulted in localized flash flooding.
