A shortwave disturbance tracked across the Idaho Panhandle on May 17th. With a moist and unstable atmosphere, there was heavy rainfall and some thunderstorms. Some locations across the Panhandle received an estimated 0.5 - 0.75 over an hour period.

On May 20th, a cool and showery pattern began in the northern Idaho Panhandle. Two upper low pressure systems dropped down into the region out of the northwest. These brought rain, with some brief heavy rain, from May 20th through May 22nd.

An atmospheric river brought heavy rains to the Central Idaho Panhandle December 10 and 11. Areas saw 48 hour rain amounts of 2 to 4 inches. The rain combined with snow melt and led to several flooding and landslide incidents.

A thunderstorm dropped anywhere from 1 to 3 inches in the city of Rexburg. A single thunderstorm cell moved over the city and heavy rain began at around 5:30 pm MDT and brought the 1 to 3 inch rainfall. Main Street was shut down with over a foot of running water on it.

Heavy rain and snow melt caused the St. Joe River to flood beginning in the month of March. The river remained above Minor Flood Stage at St. Maries through the early part of April, although the upper reaches of the river at Calder dropped below Flood Stage by the end of March.

Periodic heavy rain and mountain snow melt caused the St. Joe River the flood. Extensive flooding of fields, roads, outbuildings and yards of residences and businesses in the river bottom lands occurred. A few residences and businesses experienced first floor flooding as well.

During the month of May, unusually heavy snow pack at the higher elevations of Idaho began to melt. Runoff swelled many rivers statewide to flood stage. Hardest hit by damaging floods were the counties in the Idaho Panhandle.
