By 640 PM on 11th, Rte 2 was flooded in New Martinsville and CR 3 closed by flood at the intersection of Doolin Run Rd. By 7 PM, State Rtes 7 and 20 closed by flooding and mud slides near New Martinsville. As of 430 AM on 12th, Rte 20 was still flooded near Reader.

A warm front remained relatively stationary across the Upper Ohio Valley on January 3rd. An anomalously moist and warm air mass surged northward into the zone of convergence associated with the boundary, and combined with elevated instability to create enhanced rainfall rates.

Runoff from heavy thunderstorm rains, dumping between 3 and 4 inches, caused rapid rises along Dent's Run. Evacuations were ordered along part of Dent's Run in Westover and some basement flooding was reported. Roads and some basements were also flooded in Brookhaven.

A hot and humid day saw plenty of afternoon sunshine in the Charleston to Beckley region. Surface dew points were in the low and mid 70s. Thunderstorms from the north and east developed inward during the late afternoon, toward Charleston. This produced localized cloudbursts.

The last onslaught of heavy July rain fell in waves during Saturday, the 28th, and Sunday, the 29th. The heaviest rain on the 28th was generally from the Charleston vicinity on east, into Nicholas County. Heavier rain fell again on the 29th.

This episode, on the 8th of July, saw fast moving thunderstorms form along a north/south warm frontal boundary. This boundary marked the division between the dry and less humid air to the east, from the incoming steamy moist air, to the west.
