Hartley County Flood History

Flood — Jun 5, 2019

Upper level disturbance over eastern New Mexico helped to generate thunderstorms. Originally multi-cellular, thunderstorms quickly congealed into a line as they produced damaging winds gusts and hail reports across the central and western Texas Panhandle. Locally heavy rainfall in the most persistent areas of thunderstorms also produced reports of flooding for parts of the TX Panhandle.

Flash Flood — May 21, 2016

Thunderstorms developed in a favorable environment to intensity during the afternoon and evening hours of the 21st. They affected mainly the western portion of the Texas Panhandle. Some locations, including Dalhart and Hartley, received two or more hail storms. Hail as large as two inches in diameter was reported.

Flash Flood — Jun 4, 2015

Slow moving thunderstorms developed during the afternoon over the northwestern Texas Panhandle and resulted in strong winds, hail and flooding. The most impactful weather was from flooding. A CO-OP Observer 1 mile southeast of Hartley reported a total of 5.05 inches of rain and locally higher amounts were indicated by radar rainfall estimates over portions of eastern Hartley County. Severe thunderstorms across the northern...western and central Texas panhandle produced damaging winds and hail during the evening hours. No injuries were reported.

Flash Flood — Jun 30, 2004

Heavy rainfall caused Carrizo Creek in extreme southern Dallam and extreme northern Hartley counties...west-northwest and west-southwest of Dalhart...to flood over the roads during the early morning hours.
