Flash Flood — Jul 23, 2025

Thunderstorms moved across the region during the morning of the 23rd ahead of a cold front. While the storms were not severe as they reached northwestern Wisconsin, they were producing heavy rainfall. State Highway 35 through Siren was covered by water during the late morning hours following the storms leading to minor traffic issues.

Flash Flood — Aug 26, 2024

Storms developed across Minnesota during the afternoon hours of the 26th across Minnesota and moved into northwest Wisconsin during the evening hours. These storms were mainly wind producing storms with numerous reports of downed trees and power lines across the region. Minor flash flooding was also observed in Siren.

Warm and humid conditions developed across northeastern Minnesota on the 27th ahead of a frontal boundary that stalled out across the region. Storms were primarily hail producers across northeastern Minnesota but transitioned to more of a wind threat as they grew upscale across northwestern Wisconsin. Record breaking snowfall for the 2022-2023 winter season was received across all of northwest Wisconsin which was about 200% of normal snowfall. Much of this snowpack remained on the ground into April. Flood — Jun 30, 2020

A mesoscale convective vortex moved across parts of the Northland during the early morning hours on June 30th. This feature, along with a moisture-rich low level jet, led to thunderstorms that were very efficient rain producers. Rainfall amounts of 1 to 3 inches in a fairly short amount of time led to some minor flooding issues in parts of Burnett County.
