Flood risk not yet determined by FEMA
Zone D designates areas where FEMA has not performed a flood hazard analysis. The flood risk is undetermined — it could be high, moderate, or low.
Zone D areas are often in remote or undeveloped regions. As development occurs, FEMA may study these areas and assign a definitive flood zone.
Flood insurance is not required, but the risk is unknown. Purchasing insurance is a prudent choice until FEMA determines the actual flood risk.
