An upper level trough over the eastern Gulf of Mexico along with moist SW wind flow led to a prolonged period of major flooding in southern Miami-Dade County. Rainfall on Monday, June 6th and early Tuesday June 7th associated with a surge of moisture in the wake of the June 3-4 tropical disturbance led to localized very heavy rainfall of 5-8 inches in portions of South Miami-Dade County, aggravating pre-existing flooding and causing additional major flooding.
