A band of thunderstorms containing rainfall rates up to two inches per hour trained over parts of southwest Indiana. The storms produced some urban flash flooding. The storms intensified during the heat of the day ahead of a 500 mb shortwave trough drifting eastward toward the Ohio River Valley. A tropical air mass was firmly entrenched, with precipitable water values well above the 90th percentile for early September.
