A Piedmont trough was the focus of initially isolated thunderstorms during the mid afternoon. The storms formed over the eastern Piedmont, then became more clustered as they moved southeast and south through portions of Edgecombe, Wilson, Franklin, Wake, Wilson, Nash, Wayne, Harnett, Johnston, and Sampson Counties.
