As the temperature reached the triple digits across the area and humidity remained high, scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms developed across the region in the afternoon. The high temperatures and humidity resulted in a very unstable environment and several thunderstorms became severe and produced damaging winds. These storms dove southward as they evolved along and east of the Interstate 55 corridor.
