A surface trough in New York, associated with low pressure in Ontario Canada, lifted northeast across Vermont during the afternoon and evening of August 2nd. A feed of very moist air from the Atlantic interacted with the trough to fuel thunderstorms with very heavy rainfall across portions of Vermont. ||Some of these areas in Vermont, especially Washington County, received several inches of rain the previous day.
