Flash Flood — Jasper, TX

May 3, 2009

A long-lived line of severe thunderstorms, called a derecho, developed over central Texas early on May 3, 2009, before moving rapidly eastward across southeast Texas during the morning. Additional strong to severe thunderstorms developed in the wake of the initial derecho across the region into the afternoon hours. Several reports of damaging winds, large hail, and flash flooding were received.

Harvey moved across the Gulf of Mexico into the central Texas Coast during the last week of August. After the initial landfall, the cyclone moved back into the gulf a couple days later and then made another landfall in Southwest Louisiana during the morning of the 30th.

A tropical wave moved into the Caribbean in early October and became a tropical depression by the 5th. The system quickly gained strength and obtained category 4 status before shear weakened it back to a category 2.
