A nearly stationary line of thunderstorms developed just inland of the coast along the sea breeze during the afternoon of August 12, 2009. Torrential rain occurred for several hours centered near Havelock. Rainfall amounts of 6 to 10 inches were reported in a three to four hour period leading to significant flooding in the Havelock area.
