A strong cold front moved into the area late on the 21st, which ran into a very warm and humid air mass. Showers and thunderstorms developed ahead of the front from west to east, however some storms were backbuilding over the same areas. Locally torrential rainfall occurred, which resulted in areas of flash flooding especially during the night time hours. For exampled, a measurement from Ridgely came in with a storm total of 9.55 inches of rain.
