The weak, closed off upper low that had been lingering across the mid-south for the past few days was being absorbed into the mean flow and was lifting northeast across the region as an open trough. A moist, unstable air mass continued across the region. The added upper support provided and orographic lift across the terrain of northeast Georgia resulting in training of showers and thunderstorms across several northeast Georgia counties between Athens and Gainesville.
