The overall pattern had shifted by the 9th with an upper high over the Southern Plains, a weak trough over New England and the Mid-Atlantic, and a weakness over the Bahamas. With the trough to the north, a shortwave was able to push into the Southeast during the afternoon. The deep moisture plume continued in place, and so showers and thunderstorms developed again in the afternoon. One thunderstorm led to isolated flash flooding, and another became severe with several trees down.
