A fairly strong cold front worked into eastern New York, and approached Berkshire county late on August 3. Ahead of it, was a very humid unstable airmass. As a result, numerous thunderstorms developed during the late afternoon and evening. These storms produced torrential rainfall which flooded portions of U.S. Highway Route 7 in Lanesborough. Winds from the thunderstorms also knocked down trees at both Lenox and Cheshire.
