A few thunderstorms fired up along an occluded front on the afternoon of August 20 in eastern New York. With a humid air mass in place, a couple of the storms reached severe limits and produced very heavy rainfall. A severe thunderstorm produced wind damage in the city of Amsterdam, Montgomery County.
