A strong low pressure was located over northeast Kansas during the afternoon and evening hours of the 14th. The low moved very slowly however a moderate transport of moisture took place ahead of the low. South winds of 25 to 30 kts pushed deep moisture north into Iowa. A nearly stationary warm front was located to the south of Iowa, setting the stage for heavy rainfall. Precipitable water values were around 1.4 inches during the early stages of the event.
