A wild night of weather became the first major severe weather event of the season in south central Nebraska. Severe thunderstorms were responsible for tornadoes, very large hail and flash flooding, mainly east of Columbus to Hastings line. Fillmore County was hardest hit. A tornado in the northwest corner of the county damaged a center pivot. The county Emergency Manager was injured by flying glass after baseball sized hail pummeled his vehicles' windshield.
