Low pressure aloft across the southwest United States resulted in broad southwest flow aloft across the Southern Plains into the Lower Mississippi Valley. Disturbances in this flow rounded the base of the trough and provided the lift necessary for widespread showers and thunderstorms across Northeast Texas, Southeast Oklahoma, Southwest Arkansas and Northern Louisiana.
