A series of supercell thunderstorms with very heavy rain formed a procession across Scott, Stoddard, and Cape Girardeau Counties. Some places, such as Cape Girardeau, received over 6 inches of rain during the evening hours of January 21. This resulted in a rather serious flash flood event, with many roads under water. A few bridges were washed out in Scott County. A 3.5 mile section of Route W near Oran in Scott County was closed due to high water. Considerable street flooding occurred in Cape G
