The atmosphere across southern Arizona was exceptionally moist and unstable on July 18th, due in large part to a significant infusion of tropical moisture from hurricane Dolores. As a result, scattered thunderstorms developed during the afternoon over south central Arizona and they persisted into the evening hours.
