An upper level low was over southern Arizona moving southward, and this feature increased upper level lift over West Texas and southeast New Mexico. This upper low was pulling moisture northward into the area from the Gulf of Mexico. These conditions contributed to severe thunderstorms with large hail and damaging winds as well as flash flooding developing across the area. Thunderstorms increased in coverage overnight as an upper level disturbance moved over the region.
