A moist and humid air mass south of a cold front was over the area. A vorticity lobe kicked off a line of thunderstorms that moved over the area. Thunderstorms eventually formed into a line along and just north of the Ohio river which trained from the west to the east in the afternoon hours. Flooding reports were common in the southern end of Lawrence County Ohio. Several roads were temporarily blocked.
