Thunderstorms developed across portions of south central Arizona, including the greater Phoenix metropolitan area, during the evening hours on August 10th. Due to high levels of moisture and instability in the atmosphere, some of the storms produced very heavy rainfall with peak rain rates in excess of 2 inches per hour.
