Tropical Storm Newton barely weakened to a remnant low before crossing into Arizona. It brought strong winds and decent rainfall totals to much of southeast Arizona. In spite of rain amounts of 3 to 6 inches in the Santa Rita, Santa Catalina, Rincon and Pinaleno Mountains, the 24 hour duration of the rain event precluded much in the way of flooding from occurring. The Sierra Vista area was most adversely affected by flash flooding on September 7th.
