Thunderstorms with locally heavy rain developed across portions of the greater Phoenix metropolitan area during the afternoon hours on August 2nd. The heavy rain was sufficient to cause washes to flow heavily in some locations, particularly south of Phoenix and in the areas near and to the south of the town of Maricopa.
