A stationary front poised in the vicinity of central New York and northeast Pennsylvania was the focus for very warm and moist atmospheric conditions across the region. Heavy rain producing thunderstorms developed during the late afternoon and evening hours as an upper level jet stream punched into the area. Widespread thunderstorms produced swaths of 3 to 4 inches of rain in just a few hours time during the late evening and overnight hours across the Endless Mountains of Northeast Pennsylvania.
