An approaching warm front brought temperatures into the 50s on the 23rd along with a batch of showers. Additional showers occurred in the evening along a cold front, bringing rainfall totals to a half inch to an inch across Litchfield County. The mild temperatures and rainfall caused the Housatonic River to rise in the vicinity of a long-lived ice jam near Kent, resulting in flooding, road closures, and evacuations of houses along the river.
