A severe thunderstorm complex raced southward across southern Illinois and western Kentucky during the early evening hours. Widespread wind damage occurred with this long-lived complex, which met the definition of a derecho. Southeast Missouri was on the western flank of the complex, where wind damage was limited to a few isolated reports.
