The upper ridge over the region was flattened somewhat by an upper level disturbance that moved over the area. There were outflow boundaries that slowly moved into the area from earlier thunderstorms across the Texas panhandle and Oklahoma. A dryline was present across the eastern Permian Basin, Western Low Rolling Plains, and Lower Trans Pecos. Intense surface heating allowed for very good instability across the area.
