A surface trough developing out ahead of an approaching cold front initiated scattered afternoon showers and thunderstorms across northeast New Jersey. With very slow storm motions and precipitable water values rising from 1.5 to 2.0 inches, this resulted in isolated flash flooding across the region. The Caldwell, NJ ASOS reported 1.89 inches of precipitation, and a COOP observer in Harrison, NJ reported 1.00.
