A north-south oriented stationary front extended along the spine of the Appalachian mountains through Pennsylvania and into the southern counties of New York state. A stronger cold front was pushing in from the Great Lakes. Warm and very humid air fueled the region with numerous thunderstorms for the better part of two days. Areas of significant flash flooding developed across Northeast Pennsylvania.
