A slow-moving front with a deep upper trough pulling moisture into the region fueled pockets of heavy rainfall in the early to mid-morning. A few storms became severe by afternoon blowing down trees in several counties. Heavy rainfall redeveloped by mid- to late afternoon as a complex, broken line of convection pushed north under deep, moist southerly flow. Rainfall ranged from 2 to 3 inches in a wide swath across Rockingham and parts of Surry counties.
