A low pressure system strengthened as it moved northeast into the Great Lakes region. A large area of showers and thunderstorms associated with a warm front moved across the region during the afternoon of the 23rd, producing heavy rain and some flash flooding. The hardest-hit areas were in the Kentucky counties bordering Tennessee, including the city of Murray.
